We love ratings and reviews too! There are wonderful tools leveraging AI to sift through tens of thousands of these gems and pull out review themes and correlations to ratings. We definitely incorporate R&Rs into our work. But this only tells us what consumers who've purchased the product think about it. So, if we want to learn why a shopper didn't buy it, determine how neutral shoppers might love your product more, understand what shoppers think of totally new ideas, determine how big a new idea will be, understand the impact of potential price changes, or countless other things we're curious about...we might need to do some research.
